ICA
Solna 2005
ICA is one of Sweden’s biggest and best-known retail companies with focus on food. In August 2005 ICA’s operations at Järva krog moved to Solna Business Park, a former industrial area that is being transformed into a new district for offices and commerce. ICA turned to TEA to give the building and the office premises a clear ICA identity, to customize the parts that are specific to ICA and to design the workplace module and other furniture and furnishings.
How does one translate ICA’s communication into a physical environment?
Interpreting its components, we searched for new forms of expression. Objects from the world of the kitchen and the retailer, brought to a bigger scale, created a surprising atmosphere. The gay colour scheme from ICA’s graphics was easily transferred to the built context, and background elements were likewise made visually distinct. Recycling of forms and materials were used as a conscious design statement.
