Hästens Beds Factory Köping 1998

The Swedish-British architect Ralph Erskine designed the head office and factory for Hästens Beds in 1947. The carefully designed domestic-like environment was still present when Thomas Eriksson was approached for the expansion of the factory. Light, space and clear visibility were the major themes of the two new manufacturing halls and in spite the noisy production, a peaceful and human atmosphere was created. Future extensions were envisaged during planning, accommodating the recent addition of a second floor to one of the halls. This created such an attractive workspace that the administrative staff has moved right out into the production area.
